A Million Trees Planted in St Lawrence: Stabilising the Undercliff

  • Undercliff Dr Ventnor, PO38 1XF United Kingdom (map)

A 3-mile walk, lasting about 2 1/2 hours, through the beautiful wooded landscape of St Lawrence in The Undercliff to hear about the importance of trees in stabilising the land and easing waterlogging.

We will visit a woodland nature reserve, springs and a holy well, hear how the landscape was transformed by one larger-than-life but controversial figure in late Victorian times who planted a million trees here, and see what remains of his other projects.

Lead by Maggie Nelmes, local Tree Warden and naturalist.
