Bonchurch Open Gardens
Bonchurch Open Gardens is a much-loved annual event inviting visitors to explore a collection of 15+ private gardens across the historic village of Bonchurch on the Isle of Wight.
For two afternoons, garden gates are opened to reveal everything from cottage-style planting and wildlife-friendly spaces to established coastal gardens with sea views.

An opportunity to catch up with developments at Grow Gurnard Community Farm, while picnicking with friends and family in the beautiful meadow.
There will be activities for all ages if you feel like getting hands-on, but if a chilled family picnic is what you would like, that’s fine too!

Join Calbourne Water Mill for a vibrant Summer Market, celebrating the Isle of Wight Biosphere Festival. Set within picturesque grounds rich in history, this special event brings together the best of local craftsmanship, creativity, and nature.
Browse a variety of unique craft stalls, take part in hands-on workshops, and soak up the relaxed, community atmosphere. Enjoy refreshments at the on-site café.
Historic shores and shipwrecks: exploring relationships with a changing climate
Hop aboard the maritime discovery bus and dive into the marine world of the Isle of Wight. Parked at the new and exciting Museum and Maritime Archeology Centre (situated in the old Yarmouth Primary School), interact with artefacts and chat to experts. This family-friendly event promises the discovery of stories of shipwrecks from around the island, and how some have now transformed into homes for marine creatures.
Nature Safari: Citizen Science in the Calbourne Valley
Join us for a Nature Safari: Citizen Science in the Calbourne Valley, a relaxed, youth-focused day at Calbourne Water Mill where you can explore local wildlife and take part in real citizen science. Aimed at ages 16–25, the day includes hands-on activities, some designed and led by young people, offering a chance to build practical ID skills, connect with like-minded peers, and gain experience to highlight on a CV.
Permaculture Island Open Day
On the cliff edges of Ventnor, sits a smallholding that’s completely self-sustaining. As seen on Ben Fogle’s ‘New Lives in The Wild’, Permaculture Island will be opening their doors for the Biosphere Festival. Experience what it’s really like to live and work in an off-grid small holding, from food systems to livestock, and community connection.
Eastern Yar Guided Walk
Join the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust on a guided walk at Newchurch Moors and Alverstone Mead Nature Reserves to explore the Eastern Yar, natural flood management works carried out by the Trust and the wildlife wonders at these two nature reserves.
The walk will be led by Jamie Marsh, Director of Land Management.
Abstract Paper Paintings
Join artist Laura Hathaway at the Calbourne Water Mill, to create abstract paper paintings inspired by the changing landscape at Compton Bay. Get creative using natural materials she has collected from Compton Beach such as clays, pebbles, shells, seaweed and dried plants.

From Waste to Wearable: Rethinking Materials Through Making
A hands-on jewellery workshop by beCHARLO, exploring how everyday materials can be transformed into meaningful, wearable pieces.
Using plastic waste, reclaimed elements and repurposed findings, participants will design and create either a layered pendant or a pair of statement earrings while reflecting on value, waste and our relationship with materials.
Arty walk along Shalfleet Creek
Come and explore the Isle of Wight National Landscape with art walk leader Lucia Para.
Flowing with Shalfleet creek at high tide, we’ll explore ways to connect with the qualities of water and the surrounding beautiful landscape through art.

Leaf Printing Fun
Children can drop in to this fun FREE session at Sandown Library and create painted leaf print pictures of trees to take home and display.
Byways & Birdsong: a nature walk
On this circular family-friendly nature walk around Wroxall, we will be exploring the wildlife of hedgerow, grassland and woodland habitats through games and activities. Aimed at children over five, we’ll be identifying birdsong, finding flowers and enjoying the fabulous views through the Rew Valley.
Introduction to Wild Fermentation at Wight Knuckle Brewery
Join us for a fun and hands-on 3 hour workshop where you'll dive into the fascinating history of alcohol fermentation and beermaking.
Joseph will take you on a foraging walk around the Nunwell Estate and introduce you to the wild plants that have been used to flavour beer over the centuries, and then its back to the brewery where you'll learn how to capture and harness your own wild yeast to create tasty drinks at home.
Morris Dancing at Mardi Gras
The Morris sides are performing before the new carnival Mardi Gras procession with their Folktastic theme.
This event is to allow the Islands Morris teams to showcase their prowess in Morris dancing and the different styles that they perform.
Cowes Mascot Making
The Library staff think that Cowes deserves a creature mascot! Come and help design a mascot that fits the interesting Cowes habitat we all live in.

Of Wool and Words: Weaving natural narratives in our landscape
Of Wool and Words is a creative writing workshop which will explore the ancient traditions of livestock farming, spinning and weaving, and celebrate the combination of nature, people and place. Taking place at The Green Barn.
Participants will be encouraged to consider pastoral poems, the interaction between humans and nature, and how farming is portrayed within literature.

At the Enchanted Manor in Niton, learn about rewinding yourself. With a mobilising flow yoga aimed at opening “screen shoulders”, hear stories of a young girls personal rewilding and take a mindful stroll up to St Catherine’s Down.

Translating Frequencies: 639 returns to Calbourne Church by popular demand, following a hugely well-received installation last year.
Created by Isle of Wight artist Nathan Holt, this unique immersive sound art experience weaves together field recordings and 639hz frequency to transform the ancient resonant space of the church into a living instrument.

IW Mardi Gras 2026: Folktastic Isle – Stories, Myths and Legends
New Carnival presents the IW Mardi Gras 2026 -Folktastic Isle – Stories, Myths and Legends. Continuing our two year Folktastic theme, this year our parade will tell many of the island’s lesser know folk stories.
With over 23 local schools and community groups taking part, plus samba bands and New Carnival’s spectacular giant puppets – this is sure to be an afternoon you won’t forget! Includes the children’s Mini Mardi Gras at 11am before the main Mardi Gras parade sets off at 3pm.
Family Friendly Bike Ride with Cyclewight
Join Cyclewight for a family friendly group cycle ride from Merstone station to Yaverland, then on to Shanklin and back.
This will be a fun, very safe and slow paced cycle with multiple points to join, so everyone can get involved!

Wight Nature Fund Biosphere Day
Join Wight Nature Fund for a celebration of the Island’s UNESCO Biosphere. This year our focus will be on the wonderful island trees. We will have an exhibition of tree photos by one of our Trustees Terence Hart.
There will be a scavenger hunt around Mill Copse for children too and we will be running a tour of Mill Copse, showcasing its history and the coppicing work that we have recently been doing in Partnership with the Isle of Wight College.
