UV Night Walk: Through The Eyes Of Insects

  • Firestone Copse Havenstreet and Ashey, PO33 4DL United Kingdom (map)

For the first time ever, the Isle of Wight will host a UV night walk. Explore, connect and wander with insects in Firestone Copse, near Havenstreet with an ultraviolet torch.

UV light causes a natural glowing reaction, known as “biofluorescence”, in many species of insects and plant life all over the planet, including the life on your doorstep. Due to insect’s ability to see into the ultraviolet light spectrum, they can see colours we can’t imagine! We can catch a glimpse of their alternate reality on these walks. This educational experience lets you explore something few people know about or have ever even seen - you may discover something that nobody’s ever seen before!

UV Night Walks are part of the Through the Eyes of Insects project lead by James Wylie which aims to help communities establish valued connections to the natural world. This is achieved by offering a new perspective on often disregarded, even feared, members of the animal kingdom.
