Why cut down trees?

  • Firestone Copse Havenstreet and Ashey, PO33 4DL United Kingdom (map)

Find out why people cut down trees in this Walk & Talk in Firestone Copse with Matt Huxley, woodland manager and forestry worker.

The Isle of Wight has some of the most biodiverse woods and forests in England.

Join Matt for a 2-hour tour of Forestry England’s Firestone Copse, a historic woodland just outside Ryde. Together we’ll discover why woodland management is important and how modern forestry is changing to be more sensitive to the needs of our woodland wildlife.

For over a decade, Matt has been involved in Forestry England’s long-term restoration of areas of neglected hazel coppice and improvement of rides within Firestone Copse, improving habitat and ecological niches to benefit a variety of nationally rare and endangered species.

Free, no booking required.
